Will he or won't he?

Today is the day when the world will find out how the fans of Manchester United feel about Wayne Rooney? Will all be forgiven? The likelihood is that Rooney will begin from the bench if Fergie is to be believed. No doubt, he will rise from the bench and get some action, possibly 20 minutes at the end. The reaction of the Old Trafford faithful to the sight of Rooney, who so infuriated them and disrespected the jersey in equal measure over the last 3/4 months will be intriguing.

It is not in United's form to boo their own players, remember Ronaldo after he had tried and failed to force  a move to Madird he returned against Villareal to a mooted reception. That's the response I expect Rooney will get.

Whether this whole sorry contract issue was a game of cat and mouse in which Fergie was cat and Paul Stretford (Rooney's agent) was mouse and Rooney himself was just a pawn remains to be seen. If so maybe some communication from Wayne reiterating this point would be well advised. The "apology" United fans were promised has yet to materialise and if Rooney wants to start building bridges honesty in his public utterances is of paramount importance.

It has been a sorry soap opera for the Manchester giants, who are not used to having their good name sullied in such a manner. The reaction of the fans will be telling over the next few weeks.
Over to you Wayne.
