Roy Hodgson has been following Rennes full back Rod Fanni for several months now and is expected to make a move for him in January. Fanni is described as a defence minded right back and his arrival will likely allow Glenn Johnson to play in a more attacking role. Hodgson will be hoping he can emulate the success of Gareth Bale who moved from wing back to winger. A Rennes spokesman said "a decision will be taken within 48 hours" over whether Fanni would be joining Marseille or Liverpool.
