United - Top of the league



Will he be smiling come May?

Ominously for their rivals Manchester United are top of the league at a time when they are usually waiting in the long grass so to speak. 3 weeks ago surely even the ever optimistic Sir Alex Ferguson would not have thought it feasible for his team to have overtaken Chelsea. But after a dreadful few weeks for the west London club United are 2 points clear. The talk now in Manchester is that Fergie will now strengthen his squad in January. Bild the German daily has today stated that United have bid 12 million pounds for Bastian Schweinsteiger and will look to take the midfielder in January. Also there are more and more soundings coming from Old Trafford that Jonny Evans will be sold either in January or the summer. He is known to be very disappointed that he seems to now be 4th choice centre back, behind Chris Smalling. However his performances in my opinion have been dreadful all season, he was even at fault for Chris Samba's consolation goal at Old Trafford yesterday.

Things are looking very rosy for United at present, players are coming back from injury and special mention goes to Anderson who was immense yesterday. When he picks up the ball he is the only United centre midfielder who can run with it and take people on. United fans must be praying that he starts producing performance like he did in his 1st season. As I said yesterday Rafael must be number 1 right back, no more John O Shea for United fans to endure!
Chelsea, on the other hand seem to be falling apart at the seams. Internal strife has warranted unwanted headlines for the club and the whispers of Ancelotti's annoyance have now become shouts. These are now accompanied by rumours that Chelsea's owner is becoming increasingly disllusioned with bankrolling Chelsea. I expect a change in manger at Stamford Bridge next season, but a change of owner would be catastrophic as Chelsea do not have the global fanbase of United and are reliant on the sugar daddy business model.
